Another great collaboration of politically charged, military supporting, country loving lyrics from the real rapping soldier SGT Dunson himself. Dunson’s latest album which came out at the end of last year, one month fresh, is one that I feel is an album of redemption. Dunson kept his guard and stayed strong after the sudden death of his father (STILL LOOKING FOR SHOOTER), and coming through to complete a full album. If you take a look at Dunson’s list of releases, there is really no delayed period of time in between when those albums were released. Which I’d also like to point out the fact that Dunson didn’t take time off. Whether it be recording an album during some time off from combat while in Iraq or after losing his father, the Dunson train kept moving forward.

During a recent contact I asked Dunson…

W: Sum up what direction you were aiming to now compared to the direction you aimed for in previous albums. What did you “change?”
Dunson: I honestly wanted to go into a direction that showed my love for God at the same time still trying to hit the hardcore facts that I usually talk about. I also wanted to add more content. I wanted my album to matter. I wanted it to be a rap album from an educated man, not some rapping about money, cars and clothes which has never been me. For example with the songs “We Are The 99 #Occupy” I truly felt I could relate to how a lot of those people feel these days which is why I wrote the song. I also felt like I would have something intelligent to say as well since I am a political science major in my 3rd year. Yet I didn’t want to lose my home base which is why you still have a heavy military presence on the ablum. With songs like “Salute Me Or Shoot Me,”songs like “Hero” and even “Too Much Training.” Yet overall I wanted anyone who heard this album to be able to say I can relate to something that he is talking about my albums will get more and more commercial in the years to come. Yet I will still always put out a variety of other stuff as well.

What’s my favorite bit on the album? I would have to say that “With America I stand,” a collab featuring Stephen Hobbs, that would be the track that gets my nod. But that’s just my pick and the album is filled with great tracks so check it out! #SupportSoldierMusic

Let’s not bag on China because these types of incidents happen on military installations in the U.S. as well. To those of you in the military who read this website, you know this…  And you know that grenade range officers fear for their lives training new soldiers. As horrible as the outcome could have been, this video is still funny. Mark it down as viral.

DeAndre “Soulja Boy” gave the Army and the feds a shout out in his new song “Let’s Be Real,” but it wasn’t one in support of the troops or the F.B.I. In the song Soulja says, “F**k the FBI and the army troops.” While people were praising Soulja Boy for his “dope lyrics,” Army combat veteran Leo Dunson was in the studio putting together a response in an effort to stand up to the nonsense. The story was picked up by TMZ that Dunson and a fellow veteran filed a petition online to remove Soulja Boy’s music from all Army and Air Force exchange stores. The petition was effective because AAFES announced that all 3,100 locations will not carry Soulja Boy’s new album “Respect My Hustle.” Thank you to those civilians, veterans, and current military members who signed it.

The argument that Soulja Boy’s freedom of speech is being violated is now the main topic of discussion after he issued a public apology on GlobalGrind.com where he said…

As an artist, I let my words get the best of me. Sometimes there are things that we feel, things that we want to express, and when we put them on paper and speak them out loud, they can come out wrong. When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them. So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics.

As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end. I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war. Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets? I mean, damn, 48 people got shot in New York City just this past weekend … in 3 days … I’m not saying that it is just because of a bad economy, but at a certain point we have to take care of our own people.

In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms … a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in … In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in. I am just frustrated that we haven’t been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry.

The only reason he’s sorry is because it’s going to put a dent in his record sales and cost him some fans. He doesn’t care about what he said. If he did, he wouldn’t have written, recorded, and published it. “I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what?” How has he seen thousands and thousands of dead soldiers? Does he watch the war on pay per view or something? “I am just frustrated that we haven’t been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me.” Saying “fuck the army” is definitely not the gesture for your grievance. He probably didn’t even write that apology…

I’m gonna say this once… DeAndre change your name. You’re getting older and so is the gimmick.
