This is funny. Now I know I’m in the Army Reserve and all branches of the Armed Forces like to rag on each other, so with Mark Kirk being in the Navy, there will be gay jokes. Sorry sailors. We’re all in this together, remember that. I was driving today listening to the “BIG 89 WLS AM CHICAGO” home of Mancow, and I heard this radio ad. I wasn’t sure if it was real. For a second I thought, “Man, this is something I would do for my radio show to make people laugh.” Turns out it was a real ad. A political campaign ad. Now the FCC can’t stop people from running ads like this because of free speech and WLS sure doesn’t care as long as there is no swearing, no music from Jay-Z, and their pockets stay full… Since stations are required by the FCC to provide all legally qualified candidates for federal office with reasonable access to go on the air with their “cause,” then why doesn’t David Jon Sponheim of Americas Third Party receive the opportunity to talk about his idea of a centrist movement? A radio ad is causing controversy in the Illinois Republican race for the U.S. Senate.
The ad for Republican U.S Senate candidate Andy Martin questions the sexuality of candidate Mark Kirk. It’s quickly being denounced by the party.
Stations are required by the FCC to provide all legally qualified candidates for federal office with reasonable access and to air political ads without censoring them. It’s a free speech issue, and Martin is under fire for what he’s saying.
“Earlier today I began the first stage and first step in telling the voters the truth about who Mark Kirk really is,” Martin said.
The ad says in part, “Illinois Republican leader Jack Roeser says there is a solid rumor that Kirk is a homosexual. Roeser suggests Kirk is part of a Republican Party homosexual club. Lake County Illinois Republican leader Ray True says Kirk has surrounded himself with homosexuals.” ABC7CHICAGO.COM
